I Remember....
I am darn near 80, so I have a lot to remember. I will post some of it before I forget....
For those of you too sophisticated for Facebook, I offer this:
And I am so old I can remember how that bit of language got started. Norman Mailer wrote The Naked and the Dead about warriors in the WWII Pacific Theater. His editors didn’t want to use “fuck” or “fucking” so he changed every one (there were many) in the book to “frick” and “Fricking.” He went to a literary party after the book became a best seller and was introduced to the New Yorker wit Dorothy Parker.
“Ah, yes,” she said with her usual disdain, “Mr. Mailer. The writer who can’t spell ‘fuck.”
And to think I wrote this down without the slightest bit of hesitation.
